Bio
I was born in 1989 in Vilnius. All my life I remember myself as a musician.
Long studies and later followed performances and gigs with various bands in Lithuania and abroad. After being graduated in Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre as a professional musician, I discovered painting. This happened during my first visit to Austria where my brother and sister were both studying art. At that time I visited almost all possible museums in Vienna and was very impressed by the outstanding works of Albrecht Dürer, Leonardo da Vinci, Egon Schiele, Oscar Kokoschka, Gustav Klimt and others.
I started to draw everything around me using the technique I discovered in childhood. After practicing painting regularly I became satisfied with the results.
So I can call myself a self-taught painter. My first solo exhibition was held in the underground studio in Vilnius at February 26, 2016. Visitors saw my hand painted abstract books with the many pictures inside.
Also I prepared series of paintings on “Walking” theme and more than 40 works made in a botanical garden. In 24 of March followed another exhibition. It was 25 “Winter Sketches” for Skalvija Cinema’s gallery.
In 2017 I became a co-founder of the multi-disciplinary project “Pound Cake Time Travel Inc.” that was presented in different cities in Germany and France. The project was a conjunction between painting, photography, life music and life visuals, presented in various locations such as underground shaft, city halls, galleries.
The same year I was Artist-in-residence in Kamp-Lintfort, Residenz II. in Duisburg city, Germany.
From 11 until 31 of August, among many artists from Lithuania I participated in the exhibition Jazz/ Rock n Roll/ Canvas held by Saint Jonas Street gallery in Vilnius.
From 2018 until now, my works are exhibited at “Status Aparte” in Lier, Belgium.
In 2020 paintings “Uncertainty”, “Motion”, “Hope” were created to depict guitarist Rūta Di’s “Notes From Lockdown” EP publication.
The same year my son was born and after that I started a new journey into art world.
2021 Online solo exhibition at “Neatšaukti atidarymai” / “Not cancelled openings”.
2022 February Solo Exhibition at Compensa concert hall, Vilnius.
In 2022 summer I was Artist-in-residence at the 11th International Painting Exhibition “Pelėdų kalno paslaptys”, held at the Faculty of Arts and Education at Kaunas University.
Artist Statement
The topic I am constantly interested in is the meaning of chance, how a relatively free approach to technique affects the aesthetics, value, purpose of a work.
In painting, freedom of expression is important to me as well as the extent to which coincidence is significant, often dictating the choice of colors and techniques, even the speed of hand gestures to determine the final result in various ways.
Although I mostly choose to use acrylic paint i like to experiment with other materials: the crushed brick of my childhood home, the construction grid, the egg yolk, the walnut leaves. Through interesting texture, the form is enriched as well as the content – with reflections of antiquity, sacredness and an awakening of my favourite icons of saints.
